Useful Tricks
One great way to enjoy the area is to rent a bicycle and check out the wide network of quiet roads and paths inside Freeport. Subic Bay happens to be among the few bike-friendly cities in this country, with relatively light traffic and some lanes dedicated exclusively to bicycles. Ride along the waterfront, visit different beaches and forested areas while breathing clean air and watching some local wildlife such as monkeys.
An additional different kind of wildlife adventure is a trip to Zoobic Safari inside the Freeport Zone. This is where one gets to view tigers among other animals from a safari jeep and also walk through a forest trail. One more leading family-oriented destination is the Ocean Adventure marine park with its dolphin and sea lion shows. Sometimes it’s cheaper to book tickets online in advance.
For the best value dining, check out the many restaurants just off the main waterfront strip, possibly towards Harbor Point Mall. While very good and offering great views, prices at the waterfront restaurants can sometimes be higher. Either in local Filipino eateries or at the mall's food court, there are always delicious and much cheaper meals available. Try some fresh local seafood during your stay.
And, of course, make sure to maximize Subic Bay's duty-free privileges. While choices may not be as extensive as those found in big international destinations, the duty-free stores a walking distance or short drive away from the hotel offer a good selection of imported chocolates, liquors, perfumes, and other goods—tax free! It's that one unique perk when stay within the Freeport Zone.
